“We let Willow cut her hair. When you have a little girl, it’s like how can you teach her that you’re in control of her body? If I teach her that I’m in charge of whether or not she can touch her hair, she’s going to replace me with some other man when she goes out in the world. She can’t cut my hair but that’s her hair. She has got to have command of her body. So when she goes out into the world, she’s going out with a command that it is hers. She is used to making those decisions herself. We try to keep giving them those decisions until they can hold the full weight of their lives.” (via Why Will And Jada Pinkett Smith Let Daughter Willow Cut Her Hair - The Frisky)

Are People Not Aware That There Have Been Queer Characters Who Have Been Used In Fiction For Years?
I’m seeing all these people saying that Marvel and DC are somehow “jumping on the bandwagon” and trying to cash in on Obama’s comments about gay marriage and I’m like…
Comics are never very good at diversity of any sort but how is it somehow new or shocking that there are canon queer superheroes?
I deleted a high school friend I had because she commented on an article I posted about the new DC gay character. My original comment was how I couldn’t believe people were so outraged by the idea, going so far as to boycott and claim DC is ‘recruiting’ children.
This… friend… of mine commented along the lines of “omg why are they ruining everything!?” And because she has made homophobic comments before, I knew her comment was aimed at homosexuals, because they are apparently “ruining” something she has never ever in her life showed any interest in. Ever.
